Tommy Walker

Tommy-Walker1915 – 93

A brilliant inside forward, possessing tactical awareness, superb close control and precise passing. Having joined Hearts in 1932 Walker was jealously guarded by the club during the remainder of the decade when other clubs took an interest in the hottest property in Scottish football. Arsenal even wanted to pay a then world record fee of £12,000 for his services in 1934. It was Chelsea who finally managed to lure him to London in 1946. Walker won 20 caps for Scotland, with a further eight wartime appearances, and five appearances with the Scottish League. His football skills were equally matched with his sense of fair play which made him a popular figure north and south of the border. He later successfully managed Hearts.
